ISO 14001 is the worldwide standard for environmental management. The environmental management system was developed by the International Organization for Standardization and is used to develop an environmental policy - appropriate to the organization - and ensure its implementation.
Environmental risks of business operations can, with the help of the environmental management system, according to the ISO 14001 standard, be controlled and if possible reduced. The certificate is not generally required, but sometimes municipalities ask for it when issuing an environmental permit. Larger companies, especially governments, also regularly include ISO 14001 certification as a requirement in their tenders.
